Terms of service
The agreement between you and Shipglot for the hosted service. The open-source QA gate is covered by its licence instead.
Draft. Text in brackets, such as [Company name], is a placeholder that will be filled in before hosted translation opens. Hosted translation is not open yet; the open-source QA gate needs no account and sends nothing anywhere.
The agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and [Company name], [Country] ("Shipglot", "we"). If you use Shipglot for an organisation, you accept them for that organisation and confirm you may do so. If you do not accept them, do not use the hosted service.
Open-source software
The Shipglot QA gate, its CLI and the GitHub Action are open source under the Apache License 2.0. Your use of that code is governed by the licence, not by these terms. These terms cover the hosted service: hosted translation, the reviewer editor, the GitHub App, the API, webhooks and over-the-air delivery.
Accounts and access
- You sign in with GitHub or with your organisation's SAML identity provider. Keep your credentials and API tokens secret; you are responsible for what is done with them.
- Account owners and admins decide who has access and with which role. Seats are unlimited.
- Tell us at hello@shipglot.com if you believe your account or a token has been compromised.
The service
Hosted translation is not open yet. When it is, we will provide it with reasonable care and skill, and we may change or improve features. There is no uptime commitment (SLA) unless we agree one with you in writing. We will give reasonable notice before removing a feature you use.
Plans, billing and credits
- Your price band is the highest number of source keys across all your projects in the month. The bands and prices are on the pricing page. Every feature is on every band, including the free band up to 500 keys.
- Billing is prepaid. Subscriptions are charged at the start of each month or year. When your keys move into a higher band, the difference for the rest of the period is charged the same day, prorated. A move to a lower band starts at the next renewal; the current period is not refunded.
- Each band includes one full pass over your keys into each target language every month (10 words per source key per language), for up to 60 languages. Regional variants in the same script count as one language. Translation beyond that uses prepaid credits, bought before they are used.
- If a payment fails or is reversed, new translation is limited to what has been paid for, or to the free band, until the payment is settled.
- You can cancel at any time in the billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period.
- Prices exclude taxes unless stated. We will email account owners at least 30 days before a price change, which applies from your next renewal.
- Public repositories under an OSI-approved licence, at least 90 days old, not forks, not archived and with the Shipglot badge in the README, get the service without a subscription. If a repository stops meeting these conditions, the free plan ends for it and the normal bands apply.
Your content
- You keep all rights to the files, strings, glossaries and other content you send ("your content"). You give us the rights needed to host, process, transmit and display it to provide the service, including sending it to the AI model providers listed on Data processing and sub-processors.
- You confirm you have the rights to the content you send, and that it does not include data you are not allowed to share with us.
- As between you and us, translations produced for you are yours. We do not use your content to train AI models.
- AI translation can be wrong. Shipglot checks every result with the QA gate, but checks catch technical errors, not every error of meaning. Review translations before you ship them, especially legal, medical, financial or safety text.
- Over-the-air bundles you publish are public. Do not publish text that must stay private.
Acceptable use
You agree to follow the acceptable use policy. We may suspend access that breaks it, with notice where we can give it.
Other services
Shipglot works with GitHub, Stripe and AI model providers. Their own terms apply to your use of them. We are not responsible for services we do not control.
Data protection and security
Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data, and the security page describes how the service protects it. Where we process personal data in your content on your behalf, the terms on Data processing and sub-processors apply.
Ending the agreement
- You can stop using the service and cancel at any time.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, fails to pay, or puts the service or other users at risk. Where possible we tell you first and give you time to fix it.
- There is no self-service export yet. Email hello@shipglot.com before an account closes, or within 30 days after, and we send you a copy of your content. After those 30 days we delete it by hand and confirm by email, except records we must keep by law. Translations already written to your repository stay there.
Disclaimers
Apart from what these terms say, the service is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, neither party is liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits or lost data, and each party's total liability under these terms is limited to the amount you paid Shipglot in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes, we email account owners at least 30 days before they apply. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [Country], and the courts of [Country] have jurisdiction, unless the law of your country of residence gives you the right to use its courts.
